I think that he is probably their 3rd best player. 2nd best overall probably. Hoying is by far their best player overall player, and the 75% ride to Toledo proves that. Goldschmidt is a great pitcher, who sometimes struggles at the plate. He ended up with a high batting average last year but was also the only member of the team to play two whole games against Fairlawn in which they won by a combined score of 55-0 and he went something like 14 for 16. Ludlow on the other hand, is kind of like the leader of the team. He is the one that is always urging his teammates on. He ended up batting around .350 and only had like 4 errors at 3rd base. I don't know if that's dominating, but on many other teams he wouldn't have been batting 5th, but in last years line up he was. This year I look for him to continue to have a smooth mitt and get some more power numbers if he bats in front of Hoying.

Hoying is probably the best - 40% to Toledo - get ur facts right

Goldschmidt is next - 50% to Eastern Michigan

and then Ludlow/ Derek Coverstone

So even thought I have one number wrong, I am still right. Hoying is the best all around without a doubt. We can put Goldschmidt next even though he's been okay at hitting, because he can throw a ball extremely hard and with great location. If it's between Ludlow and Coverstone, well, I don't see much advantage to either one. They are both great players at their positions. Both can hit well for average and power if they need to, and both have varsity experience. If I want a leader I chose Ludlow, if I want a natural player I take Coverstone.

I'd say you're still right catturnedfrog. There's no doubt who the most talented position player in the county is this year, and that's Hoying. Goldschmidt is by far the best pitcher on the team and the best in the county as well. Derek and Kyler are the two players over looked on the team due to the fact that those two are in front of them. Derek will be an impact pitcher and Kyler will be an impact fielder. Both can hit the ball well. Deciding who is better should be exciting for Loramie fans because either way, you can't lose with either choice.

Frind,
NB won't win many games? They defeated you last year in the Sectional final and only lost two Sr's off that team. They return #1 through #4 in the rotation and had a solid summer. If memory serves me wrong, they are the two time defending Sectional Champs at Minster. Errors are a part of the game, don't use them as an excuse as to why you lost. That was a great game last year between FR and NB. NB just made more plays. If I remember correctly, you lost your best hitter at 2B and your #1 pitcher who started the Sectional final game and beat Minster. That is two quality players, not one.

The pitcher who started that game is Kevin Schoenherr and he is a senior this year so were losing only 1 quality player

You mentioned him as the best basketball player from Ft. Loramie, I think you have to know him then. He's a role player on the basketball team, and an impact player on the baseball team. He's no Jared Hoying, but he's going to be a tough out all year.

i agree with you there. a great role player on the basketball team. and a huge impact player on the baseball field. hits to all fields, for power, and is an excelent fielded at third. in my opinion i think he is one of the best 3rd baseman in the area

I like having Ludlow at third, but I like Russia's third baseman too. Zach Rittenhouse really stepped up defensively last year. He can't hit like Kyler, but Zach is a year younger, he might be as good as Ludlow with a lot of work. I also like Minster's Bernhold; he has that righty throwing and lefty hitting thing going on, and I really like that, but that's the MAC.

As for shortstops, I think Jared is certainly the cream of the crop. Russia loses stud shortstop Colin Puthoff, but Jordin Monnin is a great fielder who I think will certainly fill the role nicely. The rest of the county shortstops are pretty weak. Houston loses Mullen, I'm not sure who will play there for Anna now that Billing is gone. Fairlawn and JC, well, I don't think I have to say anything about them, and then theres Botkins. Travis Dietz I'm pretty sure is their shortstop, and he can hit the ball well. He might not cover the ground or have the arm that Hoying does, but he can certainly hold his own.

I still think that Hoying and Ludlow are the best combo of SS and 3rd baseman in the county. Nobody else in the county really compares to these two top to bottom.

Can't doubt this one...

It's also helpful that they have 3 other guys that can pitch that don't happen to play SS or 3rd allowing Hoying and Ludlow to play their normal position every game...huge IMO.

Srry catturnedfrog, but Rittenhouse isn't even close to the caliber of player that Ludlow is at, and what happened to Brooke Schafer playing 3rd when he's not pitching??? Not bashing on Rittenhouse or anything, but i have seen Schafer play since he's been in 6th grade, and he's defintely on of the better defensive players on Russia's team, and honostly i think that Russia would be better off letting Schafer play 3rd when he's not pitching.

I don't know how much Versailles will be affected, but Jon Richard sprained his ankle VERY bad Friday against New Knoxville. It was swelled up the size of a softball.

I do think that Rittenhouse has stepped it up a lot more than people think, but I agree, he isn't Ludlow. I personally think that Brook at pitcher is definitely their best lineup and look for Rittenhouse to be playing third base. Schafer is certainly the best option at third, but he is also going to be considered the ace of the staff. The question will be though, how much can you afford to have Brook's arm at 3rd base making that long throw when he's not pitching? Certainly its the best for this years team to have him there, but saving that arm for his senior year could be even better with the class coming up. Should make for an interesting year for the Raiders.
