Ottoville vs. OH

No disrespect to vets, but what the hell does being a Navy Seal have anything to do with soccer? That is not a bright thing to say on a soccer forum. Though, bill, I would be easy with this. If the guy is telling the truth then he probably knows how to kill you 100 different ways with his bare hands, blindfolded.

You obviously didnt see the game. OH was definitely a heck of a team, but Ottoville had several more scoring chances. They didnt capatilize. OH did. That's soccer. As so many on this forum have stated.
Anyway, it was a heck of a game. Hats off to Gerker and the seniors on another great season !

I am a little torn on "the better team" concept. I agree that for a lot of the game it did appear that Ottoville outplayed OH. I was a little surprised at how little OH tried to control the ball. They seemed to sit back and try to get breakaways. There was very little midfield play. Both team played a north/south game when the field was very conducive to using the space outside. In the beginning it appeared that number 9 for Ottoville had a matchup advantage and some good opportunities. The outside backs for OH are young and small. Ottoville seemed to go away from him and I thought that was a mistake. I am also not a big fan of "line changes" as they continued to sub 4 guys at a time. At this point in the season, fatigue shouldn't be an issue and sitting down for 10 minutes in the cold might actually hurt more than help. I'm sure it's what they did all season so I understand continuing it, I'm just not a fan. Ottovilles best chance, to me, was the header early in the second half. Yes it was a nice save but in my opinion (OH's keeper is fantastic) that ball needs to get buried in the net. OH (obviously) did a better job of finishing and also had probably the other best "missed" opportunity when 20 broke loose and missed on the short side, shoot far post!! OH adjusted in the second half to put #2 more in a play making role to get the ball up to the forwards and he set up the first goal. I know nothing about Norwayne but I would be very concerned for OH if they face CVCA. They will need to control the ball and the midfield to have a chance in that game. I was impressed with Ottoville, they played hard and had some very solid players. Finish the golden opportunity on the header Anne it's a different outcome. They dominated the first 10-15 minutes of the se one half and I thought they were going to get the first goal. Therefore, in many regards Ottoville was the "better team", however part of being q better team is finishing on offense and getting stops on defense. In that regard OH was "the better team". I enjoyed the game and lve watching high school kids compete hard with good sportsmanship. It was a great game, congrats to both teams!!

I have never liked Ottoville, but I think OH is kind of in a slump because of the age they have. (Granted, half of them probably are on a pacesetter team) But I believe that Ottoville has them in chemistry, or I guess you could say spirit.
(I've never seen either of them play, this is just what my gut's hypothesis after hearing about both of their seasons)

Wow you really are an idiot...who in the world comes onto a thread and the first thing someone says about the game is "I have never liked Ottoville"? BILLWOULDRATHER thats who
are you kidding me?

I never have liked Ottoville, from experiences playing them and experiences with PCL teams. I would rather root for a team of soccer players rather than fast basketball players.
Since you're hating on me, I'll go ahead and jump on the OH bandwagon.
Fast basketball players? Just for your information, only 1/4 of the team if that many play basketball
Your comments just have no meaning whatsoever

Experiences from playing them? Im only guessing you dislike Ottoville/PCL teams because of jealousy.

I've neveer liked teams that kick and run. That's why we're a joke to foreigners because we play a route 1 basis. Ottoville, from the experience that I have, has used the knock it long to the corners and run as fast as you can. When Van Buren had Tropf, I could not stand them because they were not technically sound, but this year, everything ran through Andrew Schroll and he controlled what happened. And thus, I enjoyed Van Buren.
I have never liked how their home fortess was as wide as basketball court. If you don't have the proper field, I do not enjoy that school's team. I know, I'm an idiot on this one, I just don't enjoy bad fields. I will list some bad ones if you would like.
But, my third reason reemphasizes the first, I cannot stand route one soccer. And when a team thinks that they're something they're not, eh, no gracias.
But sure, this point counter argues my last point, sometimes a talented group will come out of a school like Ottoville, I haven't enjoyed their soccer in the past, but maybe it changed this year, like I said, from the experience I have which have been in the past years I do not know their playing style this year.
And now, someone who probably is underage and drinking in Putnam County will reply with, "Well, how does a team that plays long ball get so far." And I've covered that by saying, I have not seen them play this year, I'm just gauging from a trend that was acquired in the past.
So, call me an idiot all you want. But I can guarantee I will not brag about being enlisted in any army/military branch.
And also, I don't see how I'm a bad person because I broadly said Ottoville would come out on top. So....I don't see what's wrong with that.
Oh, to counter argue Venom's post, I do like Miller City and Kalida. So...nice job on predicting that I don't like all PCL teams.

Woa, big fella! Take it easy on the basketball Big Green & coach Tommy. They did have an undefeated reg. season a few years back. Anyhow, I would've liked to see Ottoville get their first trip to state. That was a great senior class this year led by Turnwald. Not sure if he's playing soccer or tennis at next level, but he definitely has offensive soccer skills to compete with "city kids" everybody's talking about. That being said, it is disappointing for PCL schools not to advance yet again. It's been a few years now since Kalida went to state, and with all the Ottawa Hills seniors that graduated last year this was definitely a year when we could've stepped up. Even last year against my Titans I did see the skill level difference everybody was talking about as far as general level of talent throughout the roster, but with all those players they graduated I thought this was the year. Life goes on I guess with Big Green basketball, but more importantly Titan "american football" this weekend .

If you would have read his post correctly, he WAS picking Ottoville to win. Plus, it doesn't say much on each of your parts to spout off and call someone an idiot when all he did was tell the truth (at least a truth to him). Notice he didn't say he "hated" O-ville...he "never liked" O-ville. Then we get how everybody is spewing "hate" for some reason...I don't get it! How many of you participated in sports and never really liked a particular school for some of the same reasons that bill stated? I never liked running on Carey's stone track that was only about one-and-a-half lanes on the backstretch. I also never liked to play against or watch teams that play certain styles that hardly qualify as disciplined (whether they are competitive or not).
I'm thinking there are some people that need to do some growing up in here.

-Give Ottoville some well-deserved credit. They went 18-2-0, made it to the Reg. Semis & lost to another quality team. Great season.
-As previously mentioned, the turning point of the game was when OH's GK made the diving save on the header. The crowd's reaction proved that nearly all of them thought that it was going in. It was a perfect save on a well-placed header.
-To me, the game was determined by each team's top offensive option doing the most for his team. LGlosser seemed to control & go to the ball more than Thurmand did for his. Not saying he played bad by any means, he got his scoring opportunities as well, but Logan was able to do more & have the ball at his feet more. Also, he has some of the best foot skills I've seen all year. For lack of a better phrase, "the ball seemed to stick to his feet."
-For a "finesse" team, I personally thought that OH played just as physical as Ottoville. For a "physical" team, I thought that Ottoville was able to run with a quick team. No team completely changed their style of play, but each tweaked it just enough to counter their opponents. Kudos to both coaches for having their teams prepared for the opponent's style.
-A final observation is that OH was just too quick for Ottoville as a whole, they just seemed to be a half-step quicker most of the time. I relate it to SEC-Big 10 football speed. Big 10 teams have to use strength to get through their season, but it struggles when meeting someone quicker in a bowl game. Don't take this out of context though, I know that Ottoville has quick players, just that the OH team is quicker as a whole. Not to say it couldn't be done (Ottoville very easily could have won that game if that header went in & took a 1-0 lead), just that I don't think they've previously seen the speed they did against OH.
-The game was a great experience & I wish OH the best of luck moving forward to represent NW Ohio well.

Well Put......................... i pretty much agree. A heck of a game to watch. Ottoville needed that first goal. They definitely had their chances. Hats off to the Player of the game, the OH goalie. And Yes, the OH speed was impressive. The Kalida game was a defensive battle. Very few scoring chances both ways. This game was wide open with Ottoville having the advantage in scoring opportunities. Just couldn't cash in. OH goalie best I've seen this year.
Well put Hagen

All I get out of your posts is "Well this is what I heard from a past thread or well when I played I didn't like their style." And then you go on and on about "Well their field is as wide as a basketball court, well so is every soccer field that is inside of a track. You don't like it, go cry to the school associated with that field and have them make it wider for ya!" Look ill agree with you on the field sizes, i like fields 65-70 x 120 yd. Perfect playing dimensions. Ottovilles field is small, bull their facility is amazing. Nice grass, lights, great seating and lots of parking. Yes field is small, but so is Lima Seniors. Some of these smaller schools dont have much of a choice and so to save money they need to put their field inside a track.
You ask how you are the bad person?? Simply look at your posts. You first start out with "Ive never liked Ottoville" then your recent one "well while someone is underage and drinking in putnam county" like seriously what is your problem? you got a problem with that, go rat out to the cops because we all know that Putnam County is the only county that has underage drinking going on.

What do you expect when you make comments like that? If you feel like a joke to foreigners then why dont you take your ridiculous comments and go overseas to play the game. And make fun of how the game is played here, over there. You can fall in love with someones style of play like Van Burens all you want, and ill take a style of play that wins games. Its called strategy! If you got two of the fastest forwards in the state of ohio that no defense can catch, why wouldnt you want to play long and into the corner?
Correct me if i am wrong, but a game is won by whoever scores the most goals right? Not by time of possession? Or by who can produce the best style of play to fit billwouldrather's needs? Every sport has a strategy. It may frustrate people, it may piss people off. But if it wins games, i dont think that team would really care what you think. So my suggestion to you, after i typed up a brief essay on why i think that everything you just said is wrong and ridiculous; Is to go out next season and watch some games. Go watch Ottoville play next year and see how much different the game is compared to a decade ago when you probably last seen a soccer game played. Look, i dont hate you, you seem like a great person to talk about soccer with because i love this sport. I just dont like your comments that you made.

Ya there are teams that Ive always disliked when i played, but i dont come onto a forum and make an announcement about it! There will be things that are said during a game or you may not like a team because of how they play, but thats when you just have to let things go. You may not like someone or in this case a school because of certain reasons but what is complaining about it going to do?? NOTHING
Things just need to be let go
