Saw in my Lima News where Grove got smacked around at Paulding yesterday. What happened? Hovest threw. Is Paulding a sleeper? I thought Grove would have taken charge with their ace on the hill.

I wasn't at the game but we pounded out 16 hits and it wasn't a bad defensive game we had 2 errors and Grove had 3.
I would like to think that we could make some noise this year in the NWC, maybe find out on Monday at Crestview.

i was at the game i don't think the Paulding kids even swung at a ball if it wasn't a strike they didn't swing.......never seen all 9 guys have that much discipline at the plate.....don't think Hovest or Miller had anything working that day i know they are better pitchers then they showed that day i think Hovest even hit 2 or 3 batters.......but hats off to Paulding they earned every hit

Went over to Crestview to watch the Allen East at Crestview game. After reading all the hype concerning Balliet from Crestview, I thought it would be a great night of baseball. And it was!! Aaron Swaney from Allen East just dominated the Crestview bats. Swaney had 10 k's through 4 and the 10 strikeouts were IN A ROW!! Mean while, Balliet struggled with control against a team of sophomores and had to be lifted in the fourth when Zollars came in to close it out. In my opinion, Swaney's performance is the best I have seen in quite some time. Maybe since I saw Billingslea in high school. If Balliet is going to Ashland, Swaney may get drafted in June...lol Swaney proved to this writer and everybody at the park, he was the best player in this game. In quite of few peoples minds, including the Crestview faithful, he is the best player in the league. I have read previous posts about how good all the other teams in the NWC are, but they sure get the most out of their little group from Allen East.

From the sounds of it, Swaney may have outlasted Balliet, but didn't outpitch him. And it looks like Bluffton's going to run away with the league this season because I don't see anybody, besides Crestview and maybe LCC, competing with them. I still believe Swaney is over rated as a pitcher and catcher, but he is doing a good job of helping his team compete in league.

Only 1 loss for Crestview in the league. Balliet beat Swaney. Crestview won 2-0.

Balliet DID NOT beat Swaney. Zollars got the win. And yes, Swaney out pitched him and struck him out. Crestview has a better team, but the best pitcher did not win, the best team won. But starting 5 sophomores, watch out for the Mustangs. Good Luck to the Knights, they are a good team.

swaney must have pitched a heck of a game but came out with the loss. to my understanding, crestview has 5 games this week and 3 of them are conference tilts. they are sharing pitching duties to utilize zollers and balliet in those games and throwing any one else who can throw the ball from the mound for the non-conference games.

cheney had more control & was getting the call on the outside corner. crestview did not adjust at the plate. my resources tell me balliet rarely hits 80 & is more of a threat at the plate than the mound.

Yes I was surprised too! I remember reading a thread/post about him last year.....saying he was throwing upper 80's and that he was working with a coach to tweak mechanics to hit 90.
As for his hitting: Yes, I think he is definately a force to be reckoned with at the plate. Big guy that can drive the ball opposite field!

It still blows my mind a guy that big and had that much hype from the Crestview faithful about his pitching, can't hit 80 consistently. I think Swaney and Deitering throw 80's consistently, and they're below 6 foot! I wish i could work with him for a summer. Long toss and get the rubber bands out!!!!

lol.........yeah it sucks when a geat player like Swaney (and a few other players in the NWC) has to have his whole team riding on his back to win a game to make himself look good............and others in the NWC have great teams around them making them look better.........my guess is who ever wins the NWC player of the year is going to be on a good player on a great team .......not a great player that has to carry his whole team

This is very true. Swaney might not even get first team because Allen East's record, it's the same thing here in Spencerville with the Deitering kid (spelling? still not sure how u spell it). I haven't seen a better player go through Spencerville since the Meyer boys back in the 80's. But you can't show every team what you can do when you only get 2 or 3 at bats a game. It's probably the same with Swaney, but i believe Allen East has the better supporting cast compared to Spencerville

Although Spencerville and Allen East might not be the best teams in the league i'll bet that both teams compete..they might not win every game but im sure they both compete...other coaches in the league can tell if a player is good on the opposing team whether that team is good or not which is why deitering and swaney get a lot of talk and both should be up there
