Im glad they didnt get Sheffield....Gumshoe....I agree, would have been a great time to get rid of Arroyo...I am sort of a fan of Homer, wish he was 5th starter...

Kinda torn on the Sheffield thing. IF he stays healthy would of been a key asset. We really still need a big stick to help out and now with Gomes being sent down. Homer can't even win the 5th spot from Owings and Arroyo will win 13-15 like he does every year. He just goes in streaks kinda like Edwin Encarnacion. Homer will be back up but he still has some fine tuning to do. Overall we have a solid rotation that if we get 3-4 runs a game we will be very tuff to beat. It will be interesting to see how fast our young guns mature.

Recap #1 of 162 NY Mets 2 Reds 1 Okay I am not gonna do this 162 times, just today and periodically. Today we saw a pitchers duel and hopefully at least bullpen wise signs of things to come. I believe the bullpen gave up one hit thru four innings. Harang pitched very well on a frigid day and likewise the bats were frigid. OUr offense is not gonna score a lot of runs so we need this kind of pitching from everyone.

What was wrong with Willy Tavares? Chris Dickerson will be a full time outfielder by the end of May and I think we will like our new catcher. I hate watching Brandon Phillips bat fourth and act like a cleanup hitter.

Did you ever wonder why the Reds never play on the Tuesday after Opening day? Always a day off. You get fired up for game one and then have to wait a day for game two every year.

We need to win 90 of our next 161 to win the Central this year.

Taveres had the flu and that is some speculation as to why McDonald started the year up instead of Gomes. Overall not a bad outing for us but just lacked offense against one of the best pitchers over the last 4 years. I think we will have a better idea about a week in as to what we really have once the jitters get out. Alot of the guys weren't even starters at the beginning of last year so this is there first opening day and against Johann!! Hopefully the pitching stays as solid as it did today as that was a plus to help us stay in the game against a team with alot of weapons.

I heard a rumor today that the Reds and Angels have been discussing a possible trade. The Angels would like Aaron Harang for Gary Matthews Jr and pitcher Dustin Mosely. The Reds would rather trade Bronson Arroyo instead of Harang. I would love to see an Arroyo for Matthews and Mosely deal.

Isn't Mosely who the Reds traded to the Angels a while back for some pitcher? Ramon Ortiz or something? I just remember that when I heard that deal, I thought it was atrocious. In the end, it was atrocious.

Regardless, I don't want Mathews Jr. in Cincinnati. Give Dickerson a chance in the OF. Mathews hasn't been much of a player since he got busted for steroid use, if I remember correctly. Arroyo and Harang are going to be much more serviceable for the Reds.

Most teams that opened Monday had Tues. off because Tues. is the rain date, in the case of Chicago and Boston they were scheduled to open Mon. and it was pushed back to Tues. and the season schedule didn't need to be adjusted. I can see why they do this in cold weather cities, but do not understand why a team like the Indians, opening up in Texas, had the day after the opener as a scheduled off day.

If rumors of the Angels interest in a Reds starter are true, the attempts to make a trade will be ratcheted up a bit after the Angels #3 starter was killed in an auto accident after his start yesterday.

Well the Reds are 6-5 at the 11 game mark with a team that couldn't hit water if it fell out of a boat. Thank goodness we have gotten decent starting pitching although Volquez and Cueto are scary wild and obviously not fooling anyone like last year. We need something to jolt this team cause this division could be won. My savior call up Yonder Alonso is hitting like .178 in AA. Ouch!

Maybe Dusty needs to let Micah Owings bat 4x a game. He always seems to put the bat on the ball, don't he? lol

The Reds won again last night in another one run game. A good team finds ways to win one run games. Our pitching has been pretty decent but the hitting is woeful. We have like one guy hitting over .250 in Joey Votto who is a superstar in the waiting. Bruce is hurting but supposed to come back tonite but he is struggling. BPhil and EE struggling, our SS has one hit. Scary what is going on and we are winning. Something is going to give, we are going to start hitting eventually and skyrocket up the standings or our pitching will collapse and another bad season will ensue. These guys have to start hitting eventually don't they?

What I like: Tavares is a plus leadoff hitter and centerfielder as long as he continues to get on base. Joey Votto is a stud! Bullpen is solid. Chris Dickerson & Ramon Hernandez.

What I dislike: EE, BPHil in the four hole, Bronson Arroyo's hair (go back to cornrows), Lance Nix?, the gigantic necklaces that Volquez and Cueto wear that obviously hinder them from consistantly throwing strikes.

Rhodes has been a good addition to the bullpen for the Reds. Throws strikes and gets guys out.

Reds pitching has been pretty darn good over the last week.

I hate it when you play extra innings and lose. I think that has an effect on a team to lose a game like that in 14 innings. If you remember, the Reds and Aaron Harang went downhill shortly after that 17 inning affair with the Padres last year.

I love Adam Rosales' style of play....Hustle Hustle Hustle

Anyone remember Jorge Cantu who now plays for the Marlins? We had him two years ago and released him because we wanted Encarnacion as our 3B. Good one!

Is it time to trade Homer Bailey and some of other stiffs to try to get a bat to play LF?

Reds get a win in Fla tonite. BP has a big game with a HR and 6 rbi. I hope this gets him going for the Reds. Volquez goes 8 strong to get the win.

Aren't the Reds talking about trading Bronson??
As far as Cantu-the guy can hit but has no glove(even worse than EE) maybe thats why he is playing 1st for the Marlins. Rosales should have been on the opening day roster.
I don't see the Reds trading Homer unless its for a BIG bat for the middle of the lineup.
Maybe Dusty should try Nix in LF. the guy always seems to get a good swing every time up but he is lefthanded.

Reds continue to play well and have raised the team BA to like 5th or 6th in the National League. Continuing to get solid pitching.

Who really misses Adam Dunn and Ken Griffey Jr.? I love some of the guys on this team like Rosales and Hanigan and of course Votto and Bruce. Young guys growing up in front of you always seem to be more enjoyable to watch than underachieving over paid "veteran" teams! Go Reds!
