I'm going to admit right off the bat I do not particularly care for watching division 3 soccer, its a little slow for me. I did watch the VB vs CR game last thursday though. I didn't care for either teams, actually went with a brother-in-law. I didnt know any of the players out there but throughout the game he was letting me know who each person was that he knew on both teams. I do not see how anyone could put Tropf(#23 for VB) or Merrick(#30 for VB) anywhere in the same sentence as Ice. Yes, they were decent players, but they took lots of plays off, had little composure, I swear after every call they would both be throwing their hands up complaining about the call that had just gone gainst them. Ice (#4) was much more composed, much better leader, and you see few players that try and give as much heart as he does out there, he is everywhere on that field. To say he is good, but not a top player I find ridiculous, he would be a starting varsity player on the Findlay varsity soccer team i played on several years ago. I would even argue VB had a better supporting cast for Merrick and Tropf. That night Ice carried his team on his back and put in both goals. I was told he also has 6 goals in 4 games coming on Riverdale(sp), Pandora, and VB. I'm not the one voting on him at the end of the year, but if I was he would sure have my vote.

The player of the year will work itself out by the end of the year. Usually you need to be on the top team or 2nd best team in the league. The top team will probably be Riverdale, but this year is kind of unique Riverdale has 3 or 4 players who are all really good Keller, Gill, Grant but none of them really stands out above the others which makes the race interesting. As for Tropf he should win player of the year next year VB will be good and he will continue to improve but he doesnt quite match up with the Riverdale bunch, Clum or Ice. By the end of the year it should be clear which player had the biggest impact on their team and most importantly helping their team win a lot of games. Although player of the year is an individual award I think it goes beyond stats, talent, etc it is who helps their team win.

How old Findlay Alum? Just curious. Fellow alum here, last year with Coach Laux 1993.

FindlaySoccerAlum, are you sure you shouldn't be called CRSoccerAlum? Sorry, just seems strange that a man from Findlay would look at a NCOSA thread, let alone make a rocketcorner name just to make one post on that thread about a player he has seen play once.

That does sound pretty true. Why would someone that:

1. Doesn't like D3 soccer, actually go to the game.

2. Take notes of the players' numbers and then report back here.

3. By watching just one game of Ice, he could play for Findlay?

4. Friend or himself?

Troph is good, I think he should be up there. I do not think he is good enough to win it but he definatley is a threat to some other top NCOSA players. Ive played against Ice before and he falls a lot and yells at the ref when he makes a call thats not in his favor. I think Gill could get it even though on paper, he doesnt have much backing him up, but he still controls Riverdales midfield. Cory Rawsons forward, Sewell is better than ice in my opinion. He's scored quite a bit and he is a big threat to defenses because of his speed, but as for clum, he's just alright. I thought he was going to be really good this year but I dont even know if he'll get close to making it up there with the other players. he's still good though, dont get me wrong.

Toffeeman I graduated '99. Played varsity '98 and '99. Sorry guys I've always been a JJ huddle man, but was just turned onto rocketcorner. Its interesting everything is more localized. Not much posted about the Trojans though, it's kinda a shame. The VB CR game was the first appropriate game I had witnessed to post about. Sorry if that upsets some of you, and not a relative of Ice, don't even know his first name or last name, which ever Ice is his first or last name, but Im assuming thats his last name. Good luck to all you local county schools!

That 99 Findlay team was pretty good you guys went to regionals although everyone in Findlay was more interested in Football because of Ben Roethlisberger. You guys had a great goalie Jon Runyan and Josh Huston was pretty good too.

he was a great overall player. that "great leg" comment has always bothered me as if the ability to "boot it" is the only thing that matters in our game. i know you didn't mean it like that bighurt, but i never know what to say when someone tells me about someone's 'big leg.'

I also know that I'm partially at fault because I asked when ol' boy was at FHS, but this has gone off topic.

Gil was playing out of his natural position due to injury & a missing player for RHS & actually marked Danny for most of the game. Got to move forward after Ada went up a goal.

Danny was good as usual & created their goal. Gil was also good as usual (defensively and going forward, hit the crossbar late). Suspicions confirmed on both players.
