I think Dysert(ada), kottenbrock(lcc), orsbon(crestview), riley, philpot(paulding), Catcher from alleneast, not sure of his name.

Vermillion (Ada) had an excellent season last year. He finished third in the NWC Player of the Year voting last year.

The Yetman kid from Allen East can crush the ball. I saw him hit back to back homers in fall ball, and one went about 420'. Very solid behind the plate, has no help. Orsbon may have a great year after he signs for football and the pressure is off. He is the most athletic kid in the league. (speed, quickness, & ability). Kottenbrock will be cagy on the mound and is a very saavy player at the plate. Gavin Saine is a better hitter though. Dysert is Dysert. He gets alot of pub from football and basketball. Vermillion makes that team roll offensively.

Well i dont know how good that kid from allen east is but i dont think the play of the year will come from allen east anythime soon. I like the two kids from LCC Saine a great hitter who can crush the ball at times if he hits .400 plus and hits 5 or 6 homeruns look at him for it and Kottenbrock a below 1 era last year as a junior so I think one of them

You very well could be correct. The kid from Allen East has absolutely no help, and if team record is a factor, that will undoubtly hurt his chances. The kid could play anywhere. But there are some other quality players besides him and the the two from L.C.C. You must be a T Bird fan. Predicted order of finish for P.O.Y.

1. Briggs Orsbon Crestview
2. Nate Vermillion Ada
3. Curt Yetman Allen East
Travis Kottenbrock L.C.C.
4. Zac Dysert Ada
5. Gavin Saine L.C.C.

Well im not a tbird fan athough I am from Lima... I agree with you on having no help but the Kottenbrock kid I got to play with at Lima Legion and he was a stud and Saine I played against when he played for Ottowa legion where did the kid from Allen East play?

My order goes LCC gets screwed again and none of them get that although they both deserve it.
1) Orsbon
2) Kottenbrock
3) Vermillion
4) Saine
5)Dysert

I couldn't tell you for sure. Someone said he played on a traveling team in Columbus. I just had the opportunity to see him play in fall ball and he killed us. All the boys have an opportunity depending on who posts the numbers. It is just nice to think spring is on the way. The boys over here in Delphos may surprise some people. Personally, I thought Geoff Bowers was the best player last year but it did not work out.

Yetman was from Shawnee. He transferd to AE at the end of his sophmore year. He is a great kid in sports and out. Been watching him play baseball since pitching machine league in the 2nd grade!! If POY is based on the player and not his team or teammates help, I would say Curtis has a great chance! But I won't be surprise if it goes to Ada's Dysert!

I feel Kottenbrock gets it this year....look at his stats last year as a junior. Pretty sure the kid has a sub 1 ERA. Best pitcher in the conference and also not to bad with a bat in his hand but wouldnt say he is one of the best hitters in the league tho.

Once again it all comes back to how the team performs. Not to mention what school you are from. There are certain groups of schools that always vote together when it comes to league honors/POY. I think that what the player means to his team should be weighted more than results. That being said I think that travis (powder) kottenbrock will win. He will pitch most of the league games and with a sub-one ERA he will be the reason they win most of those games. And cause in baseball it all comes back to pitching. But it really is anyones race. Here is to hoping for a good and competetive season.

Sounds like the NWC has some good baseball players. I may have to watch them closely to see how things shape up.

I think some one really likes the yetman kid. But pitching wins games and Kottenbrock is a top of the line starter. Yetman is a good player but he is nowhere near the god that someone thinks he is. He does have some protection in the line up. He strikes out way to much with runners on base. And his extremly slow feet cost his team alot of runs on the basepaths.

Without question, the two top candidates for player of the year in the NWC are Briggs Orsbon and Travis Kottenbrock. Offensively, Briggs is a very tough out and almost impossible to throw out on the base paths. With a good season, he will rewrite the record books at Crestview in a sport other than football. Defensively, there is not a more pure centerfielder in the NWC, maybe the surrounding area. He is a freak of an athlete . Travis had a tremendous season last year, with a very low ERA. Pitching against the best teams on the schedule and maintaining an ERA around one is incredible. Similar numbers this year and a solid offensive campaign will be hard not to give him the POY. When he has his curve working, very tough pitcher. Interesting to see how much of an impact Bowers had behind the plate catching him. This race should be a great one, but if Briggs puts up offensive numbers and decent pitching stats, he will be back to back POY.

I agree with you on this one Orsbon hit over 500 last year and cant get much worse then that this year unless he gets hurt because everyone improves every year. If I remember right Kottenbrock led the area in pitching with and ERA of .62 and if he does that and hits 400 how cant you give him it? But I think its up to the top hitters no one really cares bout pitching really so I got to go with Orsbon or Vermillion

No one cares about pitching??? With a pitcher like kottenbrock who, by his era last season, holds a team to under one run a game all your team has to do is score two runs which is not hard in high school ball. Lets say the pitcher gives up 5 or 6 runs a game then your team has to obviously scoure at least 7 which is much tougher than scoring two runs

i agree yetman is slow...no he isnt the god everyone thinks he is but i do think that aefan is getting too worked up over this dont down the kid too bad. i watched yetman play in the late summer. his foot speed is better and over the summer i know for a fact he struck out twice. the kid is the best hitter in the region with out a doubt. he went to a bunch of colleges this summer and played against a bunch of kids that probably signed D1 soon after that. he also caught in those games and hit while coaches from schools all over watched him and did pretty well under the pressure. the kid isnt god, he no doubt brings alot of what he learned at shawnee to the table in the NWC, he for sure needs to work on his speed but dont rule him out in the running for POY because he may strike out trying to carry his very sub par team mates. i remember watching them play our boys at crestview and yetman got a hit 3 of 4 and the hit he got out on was a rocket at our 3B man. his first AB he launched a double off the right field line, good hitters hit opposite way. he hit .470 last year .030 under .500 is pretty good. i think next year he is going off to play college ball himself.

now my personal favorite, orsbon. awesome athlete and great kid. he is as you say a born player. he is one of the best athletes this side of ohio. he turns bunts into doubles with his speed or he can haul off and crack one over center field. he tracks fly balls down with his speed and most importantly catches them and has a strong arm for a 3 sport athlete. he works hard in all sports he plays in and does his best to win but more importantly he looks and acts like he is playing in the back yard with his friends. he is the complete high school player which makes him POY material. he has speed agility power small ball technique a strong arm and solid D and can be an effective pitcher when asked in case the team needs him. I believe thats what makes a player of the year.

finally dysert doesnt deserve it all. he gets his press because of football. he hit only .450 last year. if you want to compare catchers, yetman is better he out hit him and out plays him on the defensive side of the things too. yetman can block and throw what ever comes his way.

kottenbrock is the best pitcher in the league. a one era is hard to have not to mention being under a one era. his comand of his junk and his fast ball are well above average and he is a south paw i believe which is a plus. but i will point out because no one else has, he isnt a bad hitter either. he can hold his own from the right side of the plate. no one mentions that he can hit and run to support his team mates and not just do it on the mound. he is very relaxed on the mound and in the batters box and for good reason, he gets the job the best he can and does. he pitched as a junior with a sub one era against the best teams on LCC's schedule and LCC does not slack when it comes to filling out a schedule. the play a tough one and kottenbrock holds his own. im looking forward to seeing how his senior year turns out.

FINALLY LETS ALL BE NICE! AEFAN ESPECIALLY! THESE ARE STILL KIDS! HIGHSCHOOLERS! DONT BE HATEFUL OR PUT THEM DOWN THEY ARE OUT THERE TO HAVE FUN AND NO ONE PRESSURES A YOUNG PLAYER MORE THAN A YOUNG PLAYER. LET THEM PLAY. WE ARE OLD MEN WE HAD OUR DAY NOW LETS LET THE HAVE THEIRS!
