Inside the Greater Buckeye Conference
By Kyle Timmons
Greetings GBC fans! While I don’t claim to be an expert in Greater Buckeye Coverage sports, I have seen my fair share of games this year and in the past; therefore, I will offer a weekly “Inside the GBC” look which will look at how the teams are doing, upcoming games, and perhaps other interesting pieces of information.
This week’s we’ll focus in on how the boys and girls basketball seasons are doing as we draw near to tournament draw time and the end of the hoops season.
Unless there is a major shake-up in the final weeks, it looks like Marion Harding is a near lock for a well deserved GBC title. With a tough road battle tonight in Napoleon and another GBC contest at Lima Senior next week, the Presidents should be in a good enough situation that they should hold on to their current 3-game lead on the conference.
A battle for 2nd through last will be on everyone else’s mind over the last few weeks. While the youth and inexperience of the Little Giants lead me to believe that Fremont Ross most likely will finish in last, don’t count out the Little Giants against Sandusky as anything goes in that battle. Additionally, I would have to think Lima Senior will get their act together once again before the end of the season and I personally will take them to finish either a game ahead of Findlay or tied with Findlay for second place.
* Marion Harding has two individuals averaging over 18 ppg as Marvin Owens and Shawn Dyer continue to be a force for the Presidents. The dual also are 1st and 2nd in the GBC in steals while Dyer is 1st in Free Throw Shooting (78%) and assists (7.3 ppg).
* Antoine Hutchins leads the GBC in scoring with an average of 21 ppg. Hutchins also leads the league in rebounds with 8.64 a contest.
