Eastwood Evens Season Series
Written on Sat, 06 Feb 2010 by oberhaus

Pemberville: In terms of rivalries, this one ranks up there with the best. Its the Browns vs Steelers, OSU vs Michigan, Texas vs Oklahoma, Yankees vs Red Sox, just on a smaller scale. Elmwood vs Eastwood is heated rivalry no matter what sport we talk about. It just so happens that in Basketball we get to enjoy this twice.

This was the second match up between Eastwood and Elmwood this season. The first was won by the Royals 54-44 at Elmwood. Last nghts game was even closer and more heated.

The gym at Eastwood was rocking right from the start. Both student sections were there in force and very spirited. The pep band was blaring. It was everything you expect from a rivalry game.

When looking at the two teams this year there is one huge difference...Size. Eastwood has it and Elmwood doesn't. The Eagles start 6'8, 6'...

Inside the Greater Buckeye Conference
By Kyle Timmons

Greetings GBC fans! While I don’t claim to be an expert in Greater Buckeye Coverage sports, I have seen my fair share of games this year and in the past; therefore, I will offer a weekly “Inside the GBC” look which will look at how the teams are doing, upcoming games, and perhaps other interesting pieces of information.

This week’s we’ll focus in on how the boys and girls basketball seasons are doing as we draw near to tournament draw time and the end of the hoops season.

Unless there is a major shake-up in the final weeks, it looks like Marion Harding is a near lock for a well deserved GBC title. With a tough road battle tonight in Napoleon and another GBC contest at Lima Senior next week, the Presidents should be in a good enough situation that they should hold on to their current 3-game lead on the conference.
A battle for 2nd through last will be on everyone else’s m...

Public vs. Privates.....
Written on Thu, 04 Feb 2010 by Rocketman

(Date: December 10, 2008 )
“Public Schools versus Private Schools?”

There are approximately 120 private schools in the total 800 Ohio high schools that field girls’ high school basketball programs. Thus, private schools represent roughly 15% of the 800 high schools in Ohio . Over the last 4 years at the State Final Four there have been 64 teams competing. (4 divisions x 4 teams per year x 4 years = 64 teams). Of these 64 Final Four teams 21 have been from private schools which is 32.8% of all teams competing in the State Final Fours since 2005. Each of the last 4 years is broken down as follows:

Ø 2008 state tournament 37.5% (6 of 16) of the final 16 teams (4 teams from each of the 4 divisions) were private schools.

Ø 2007 state tournament 31.25% (5 of 16) of the final 16 teams (4 teams from each of the 4 divisions) were private schools.

Ø 2006 state tournament 18.75% of the final 16 teams were private schools (3...

Elmwood gets back at Genoa
Written on Tue, 02 Feb 2010 by oberhaus

Bloomdale: The Elmwood Royals got off to a rough start this season. They struggled to a 1-5 record including a big loss to Genoa.

Since that start, the Royals have streaked to 7 wins in 8 games. And with tonights victory over Genoa, Elmwood sits with just 2 Suburban Lakes League losses. Just 1 game behind Eastwood and Otsego.

The Royals used a full court press right from the tip to rush the Comets into 6 firs quarter turnovers. Those TO's led to a 12-2 Royal lead in the first 3 minutes. But Genoa answered right back with its own 12-2 run to tie the score at 14 after 1 quarter.

The second quarter showed more Elmwood press and more Genoa turnovers. 6 more TO's led to an 8-0 Royal run to open the period. This time the Royal defense didn't let up this time as they powered on 9-4 to close out the quarter. Elmwood en...

Irish too much for the Dawgs
Written on Sat, 30 Jan 2010 by oberhaus

Toledo: A crisp, clear night. A beautiful venue.

A good first quarter. Then it all fell apart for the Bulldogs.

The non league matchup between Elida(8-4) and Toledo Cetral Catholic (10-2) started out great. The lead changed hands 5 times as the play was fast paced and clean. Central held the lead after 1 by a 15-13 mark.

The second quarter was where this game turned. The Irish opened up a full court press that they would employ for most of the remainder of the game. The press seemed to frustrate the Dawgs. Not causing a lot of turnovers, but just getting them out of their normal offense. All while the Irish played free and loose with many fast breaks, including a one hand jam from Nate Hobbs. Central jumped out on a 9-2 run and closed the quarter with a 11-7 burst. After 2 Central held a 35-22 lead.

Hobbs paced Central Catholic...
